Tomato Sauce for Two (or soup!)

Used with Gnocchi


1 pot
small camp mug



1 cup water
1 tablespoon chicken or beef boullion (or use a cube)
1 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp thyme
2 tsp oregano
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
Salt & Pepper to taste

In a camp pot, add 1 tablespoon boullion to one cup of water.  Bring water to a boil to dissolve boullion.  Add can of diced tomatoes, including liquid.  Add 2 teaspoons thyme, 1 teaspoon garlic powder adn 2 teaspoons oregano.  Bring back to a boil.

Once boiling, add 2 tablespoons cornstarch to camp mug. Mix in about 1/3 cup of boiling tomato mixture, liquid only.  Mix well, removing lumps. Stir cornstarch mixture back in pot. Continue stirring over heat until tomato sauce has thickened. Salt and pepper to taste.


Variation: Hearty Tomato Soup: for creamy cersion, use only 1 tablespoon cornstarch. For brothy soup, omit cornstarch. Add dehydrated veggies to make vegetable soup!
